Toll Gate Winter Concert

Toll Gate band

Danica "Razzy" Weedon

On December 1st, the 2022 Toll Gate Winter concert was held. The groups that performed were the Jazz Band, the Honors Ensemble, the Concert Band, and the Orchestra.

This year’s concert had a theme, music history.  The various groups played a piece from each time period of music, plus some Christmas tunes. Each period of music is categorized differently, each having their own unique traits defining their era. The eras include Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what we cover in the Toll Gate music program, widening student’s knowledge on all topics of music.

The Medieval piece played was called Dies Irae. El Grillo was played for the Renaissance period.  For the Baroque period, Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 was played.  Ave Verum Corpus was played for the Classical era.  For the Romantic period,  Allerseelen was played. Finally, for the Modern ear, Fanfare Variations was played.

Dies Irae, El Grillo, and Ave Verum Corpus were performed by the Concert Band as well as Allerseelen, Joy to the World, Deck the Halls, Greensleeves, The First Noel, and Carol of the Bells. The Orchestra performed Brandenburg Concerto No.5 and the Jazz Band performed Second Line, My Little Suede Shoes, and Work Song

Toll Gate’s music program has worked extremely hard during the months leading up to this concert.  Their hard work was reflected in their performance. I would like to thank everyone who attended the concert.  I hope to see you again during our 2023 Spring Concert!
