With the end of the football season rapidly approaching, I am going to introduce two of our captains. Jackson Kavanagh is a senior captain and a two year starter for the Titans. He is our Swiss Army Knife, as he is such a versatile player, playing linebacker for two years and stepping into a big role in playing center and taking charge of the offensive line. He is always ready to step in where he is needed.

 “Why do you think people stop playing football and lose their love for the sport?”

Jackson Kavanagh – “I think some people stop playing football because of the commitment. It is five days a week from June to Thanksgiving. It’s hard to show up everyday. Some people leave because they aren’t seen. If you are not a varsity starter you don’t get reps at practice or get into the game. There have been only two JV games, so there isn’t much opportunity for young players to become the best players that they can be.”

Next we have here Rocco Coccio who is a senior captain and a two year starter for the Titans. Rocco holds down the offensive line at left tackle, and plays in the trenches at defensive tackle. Rocco has taken a big leap this year, improving a lot throughout the off-season and leading the team as one of our captains.

“Why do you love football?”

Rocco Coccio – “I think it is the greatest team sport. I made friends through football, and it’s taught me so many different things outside of football.”

“What things have you learned from football that relate to the real world?”

Rocco Coccio – “Football has helped me learn how to lead a group of people toward a common goal. Football has taught me how to be a better teammate and work better with peers outside of football.”

Even though we had a disappointing season, these captains did a great job leading our team. They showed up every day and were role models for our under classmen. Next season we will miss their dedication to the game and the leadership they provided week after week.
