As spring arrives, so does the return of the lacrosse season at Toll Gate. With a new season underway, as well as a new coaching staff, the Titans are hoping to improve as a team and build up some momentum rolling into the season.
Last season, the team finished with a 3-12 record, competing in Division III, with Narragansett and Mt. Hope as the top teams to beat in the division. While the team is still developing, they hope to bring a playoff run back to Toll Gate.
Every season brings a whole new start. With a full schedule, the Titans hope to prove themselves this year. The first game is set for Wednesday, April 1st against a competitive Division II team in the Portsmouth Patriots. Last year, they lost against this team 20-0, but believe they can come closer to victory with key additions like Seamus Corrado making a big improvement in goaltending from last year.
Senior Defensive Midfielder Will Goodine said before the first game.“We are looking to improve on the disappointing, and quite frankly embarrassing, performance that we had last year against them and I believe we can put up a fight this year.”
This season is not just about wins and losses but also growth. The narrative for this year is to compete harder than ever before, and to build a program that can succeed in the future. The Titans are ready to prove it.
Early Season Check-In After Three Games
After the first three games of the season, the Toll Gate Titans are starting to show signs of growth, even if the results are not what they wanted. The Titans have shown flashes of potential in the first three games with Maddox Schulde leading the team in goals with 5 and goalie Seamus Corrado holding down the fort with a .557 save percentage.
After upsetting losses in the first 2 games against Portsmouth and Narragansett, the Titans bounced back quickly with a 12-5 win against North Providence in a gritty battle. I talked to Seamus Corrado about Toll Gates performance throughout these invigorating first weeks.
“As the goalie I am pretty pleased with our performance so far; we got off to a rough start with our first couple games but we really pulled it together with our most recent win versus North Providence and I am very proud of our team for that.”
The Titans are looking to capitalize on this momentum as they look to face Lincoln on 4/13 and Coventry on 4/15
