What is the fun of Christmas? Christmas is often a time spent ritualizing family traditions. These traditions bring family and friends closer together, many spend this time doing what they’ve grown up knowing and loving. For some, that means putting up a bushy evergreen tree and decorating it with colorful lights and shiny ornaments. Others enjoy baking gingerbread cookies and covering them with sweet vanilla icing. Sometimes the best tradition is simply staying at home, letting the glow of a lit tree illuminate the room. You might even share mugs of thick, rich hot chocolate with a partner, with mini fluffy marshmallows floating on top. But what if you spent Christmas without these known traditions? Or maybe you don’t go out of your way to celebrate? What joy comes from Christmas if not celebrated the proper way?
The truth is, there is no right or wrong way to spend your Christmas for it to be enjoyable. The joy of the holiday season does not only come from traditions we live to know. It comes from the time we spend romanticizing the little things in life whether that is that chilly breeze that fills the air when December drops in, or the dazzling white drops of icy snow that falls so effortlessly. It could even just be the joy in seeing others smiling so frequently during this time of year that brings you the joy of Christmas. You don’t have to put up a big tree, or give gifts, you don’t need to bake gingerbread cookies and make yourself a warm cup of cocoa. You can spend your Christmas filled with the spirit you have within – even if it isn’t shown by decorating your home.
Traditions are repetitive and that is why we humans enjoy them.. We find comfort in routine, and we fear the unknown which is why it’s hard to try new things that aren’t what’s found “normal” to us. But what if a person’s normal isn’t most people’s common? Some people just live in simplicity and find happiness in small things. Whether it’s by choice or religion, Christmas can be enjoyed without the customary traditions we’ve made it to become.Everyone can find joy in many things during this time of the year that many don’t notice can be felt and enjoyed if not done the “proper way” and that is just solely untrue.
