The Pokemon trading card game has been evolving from our childhood. It’s now a market with huge significant sales, investment, and a very collectible trend. So many people invest in a thing that’s only cardboard with pretty pictures on it. Pokemon has become one of the biggest trends since it started out in 1995 as just a card game to play.
The Market Size & Growth has expanded thousands and millions of times all over the world.
According to GlobeNewsire.com, the Pokemon Trading card game (TCG) market is seen and projected to be worth $7.8 billion in 2025. In 2030, its estimated growth will be $11.8 billion. One report, from PRNewswire, estimates that the overall (TCG) rising to $21.4 billion this year 2024 with potential to reach $58.2 billion by 2034. The market is huge and grows at a rapid rate each year.
Why do people buy and want Pokemon?
“People buy Pokemon cards for various reasons. One such reason is nostalgia.” People “love” seeing their favorite Pokemon’s art on a card that they watched on TV years ago as a kid. All that really is, is a picture on a piece of cardboard. But that one piece of cardboard is the coolest thing ever.
Another reason people collect and trade Pokemon is for financial reasons. ”The markets are huge for Pokemon. The average year-year price for Pokemon (TCG) cards have gone up 30-40%.
A final reason people collect the cards is the thrill and excitement that come with this hobby. The hype is a great feeling that people are drawn and pulled towards having the chance to pull a rare and valuable card in the midst of a Pokemon (TCG) booster pack, making collecting addictive.
Collectibles are crazy popular when it comes to Pokemon. There are hundreds and hundreds of cards to pull and people just love completing a set of Pokemon.
I like to get my most valuable, or potentially valuable, Pokemon cards graded through a grading system. I pick my most favorite and valuable cards and I go to the game stop and say “I want to get these cards graded”. They take a few pics, put a sticker on it and charge you 25-$30 a card. You can ship directly to PSA which is the #1 grading company right now. You can also send other cards to get graded like sport cards. It’s worth getting a card graded because the card value goes way up. During the grading process they look for factors like scratches, white marks, and centering of the picture on the card because not every card is printed “perfectly”.
This is an example of a graded card. They also give you a QR code to scan and look up the card value on the PSA website to see the population, price and what other people sell/buy it for. They grade cards on a scale of 1-10. The real value is 8,9, and 10. If it comes back an 8 then the card value kind of stays the same. If it comes back a 9, the value goes up a couple bucks depending on the card. But if it comes back a 9.5-10 the value of the card can double, triple or quadruple and even more depending on the card.
If you are interested in experiencing this hobby for yourself, Here is an app, Pokecollector, where you can download on your phone/device to keep track of prices of all Pokemon cards.
Another website you can use to buy Pokemon cards that is worldwide trust worthy that I also use is TCG.player
