Finding your spiritual beliefs can be hard and may have you searching for answers. Let me tell you how I started finding my spiritual beliefs.
Growing up, my family wasn’t always the most religious. I mean sure, we went to church occasionally and maybe once for Christmas, but we had only gone a handful of times. Up until recently, our lack of commitment to spiritual life has stayed the same; but because my mom’s new fiance and his family are religious, things have changed.
Having been around their religious nature, it opened me up to more religious beliefs and showed me what they do. This was the first time I was introduced to a religious community but this wasn’t the biggest change to my spiritual beliefs.
Over time, thinking more about and even getting some videos of religious influencers and public speakers, made me think of what I really believe in and how I should go about it. This was the point in my life when I decided to just get a Bible. I didn’t know what, how, or even where to buy a Bible. Asking my mom for help, we found one that I liked and we bought it. When receiving this gift, I thought it was like just reading any regular book, but I was wrong. I learned that there are ways to start out with reading it. Following advice I had received helped me truly understand the Bible and about Jesus. I had started out with reading the Book of John, which presents a lot about what Jesus has done and who he really was.
In my honest opinion, I believe that everyone should attempt to find a religious belief they truly believe in and not what the people around them think, forcing you into a lifestyle you may not want to live in. Even if you just try a religion and don’t get it, try to be as open minded as possible and understand more about the culture and what their beliefs are based on.
