Running Track at Toll Gate

Track

Patrick Wilson

This is my last year of track. I have so many wonderful memories of what track has done for me. For me, this isn’t only a sport, it is also a team who I can call my family. This family has taught me a lot about challenging and pushing all of us to do our best.

Track is one of the reasons why I am who I am today. It taught me so many life lessons that I can use on an everyday basis. The negative things said to you, on the track, you can prove others wrong.  “No pain, no gain” is my motto.  If you are hurting, you can do better. All the thoughts in your head, all the voices you are hearing, once you start running, they disappear showing the fierce human being you are. Track isn’t only a physical sport, it is also a mental sport. Track helps strengthen your mind and your body pushing them both to the limit.

Track shows how hard work and determination can take you as far as you want to go if you work for it. Hard work and determination is the key to prospering in life and with every task at hand. This amazing sport is the reason why my mind is free, the reason why I have the bonds I have today. Track made me who I am today and will forever be a part of my life.

Starting track my Sophomore year showed me how different high school track is from middle school track.  The determination, as well as the spirit, are increased.  All your teammates have this same determination for the different events they run. The records that have been set because of hard work are amazing.  Group effort to try and be on the top individually and a team effort matter. Track makes you prove to yourself that this is only the stepping stone for you to grow and do better once you put your mind and body to it.

This past Indoor track season, we had great individual and team success.  Our team ended up being 3rd in our division going 8-2 overall.  We also scored more points at the State meet than the previous 4 years combined.  All 3 relay teams placed and got medals.  The 4×200 relay team also set the school record at the New England Championship running 1:34.96.

All of the hard practice, the aches and pain your body is feeling is pushing you to do better than what you did previously.  Running track makes you prove what you can bring to the table and to yourself. This shows you discipline.  Track is so much more than sport.  It is a way of life.
