On October 19th, 2022, a group of student athletes who exemplify leadership from Toll Gate High School were invited to join the Rhode Island Interscholastic League (RIIL) at Camp Fogarty in East Greenwich. Six Toll Gate students were selected; Kara Yelman, Amanda Preston, Alison Pankowicz, Brady Maccarone, Ryan Dacey, and Brayden Ogden. These students were shown a presentation relating to leadership and sportsmanship in the military. Led by active service members, the students had the opportunity to perform different military training tasks which required them to work together as a group. One of the student athletes, Amanda Preston, said, “I really enjoyed it because I think it helped us, as student athletes, grow together with team bonding exercises.” She also added, “I think it was a positive experience for our school.” A highlight of the experience was performing a roll over simulator in a tank where they had to work together as a team to complete the task.
