Cinco de Mayo came a little late for the Toll Gate High School Class of 2025. For the annual senior prank, the class officers hired Mariachi Tequila, a local mariachi band, to parade around the school, performing fan favorites like “Tequila,” “Macarena”, and, of course, “La Cucaracha.”
The band began just after 10am on Wednesday, May 28, and performed throughout the advisory period. The trio of performers, led by Class President John Maynard and senior Maxx Tejada, who helped book the band, first marched past the main office and then down B2 before crossing the bridge to the A Building. The halls were lined with students and teachers, their confusion turning to celebration as they clapped along to the familiar songs. As the band paraded through the school, seniors began to join behind them and march along. Mariachi Tequila walked around every floor of the school, including the annex in the B Building, ensuring that everyone was treated to their performance.
Past senior pranks have included a senior sleep-in during advisory, a wedding outside of the lower gym, and bad parking. None of these pranks included the whole school or lasted for very long, something that this year’s seniors hoped to change. By all accounts, the prank was a success, with students and teachers all joining in on the fun. The band concluded their parade in the gym, where they performed a few more songs to the senior class.
