Every spring, Toll Gate High School holds its National Honor Society Ceremony, inducting new candidates and congratulating its current members. This new class comes with a freshly elected team of officers to represent and lead their chapter. In this female led leadership team, there is Tate Payne as President, Kassidy Roache as Vice President, Sanvi Parekh as Secretary, Maia Costa as Treasurer, and Laurel Breault as Historian. We were able to talk to these officers to get an understanding of Honors Night and what’s to come for this class of incoming NHS seniors.
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about what National Honors Society is? (For those who may not know)
A: “Well that is a great question, National honor society is a group of students with… a high gpa in their junior and senior year who get together” (Laurel Breault)
A: “And dedicate their efforts for the entire class” (Sanvi Parekh)
Q: Recently you were inducted into the National Honors Society, how did that go?
A: “It went well! It was very smooth” (Tate Payne)
A: “Very smooth, I was kind of shocked because when I got the flower, I broke the flower, but it’s okay”(Sanvi Parekh)
A: “I broke them when I was putting them down. No one noticed.” (Kassidy Roche)
Q: What are your goals going forward as officers of the NHS?
A: “I just think I want to be a good leader and help make everyone like, I just want them all to enjoy their time in the national honor society and know what they’re doing and when they’re doing it, and how they can help, and kind of make everything more clear and organized I think.” (Tate Payne)
A: “I would say the same, keeping everything organized, so that everyone knows what’s happening and what to do…” (Kassidy Roche)
A: “I want to keep everyone motivated for school and also building friendships throughout school” (Sanvi Parekh)
A: “I guess plan for any fundraising and um…” (Maia Costa)
A: “As Historian, I want to capture the moments and make a collage of all the great things that happened for our members this year.” (Laurel Breault)
Q: What difficulties have you faced so far as officers?
A: “I had serious issues building a group chat but… we got that out of the way. It’s fine. Androids really messed up the whole thing. Nobody wanted to use snapchat so we had to use group me.” (Tate Payne)
Q: What was the election process like for each of you?
A: “It was honestly pretty stressful. It was me, Jaylene, Samantha. I didn’t really campaign, I kind of just ran, and it was more of just like if I lose, I lose, I have nothing to lose, kinda just for fun, and I’m just happy I won.” (Tate Payne)
A: “I would say the same thing I was against some good other people so” (Kassidy Roche)
A: “I can’t say the same thing because I think I was the only person running, I knew that I was going to be the one” (Sanvi Parekh)
A: “Yeah I also ran unopposed so” (Maia Costa)
A: “I mean I ran against someone else, and both were good candidates but I won, so” (Laurel Breault)
Q: What part are you most excited for in each of your positions?
A: “I’m excited for the ceremony next year” (Kassidy Roche)
A: “I’m excited to gather all the pictures from everyone’s lives and see how everyone, even though we are all members and all in the same honor society we all have different lives and different ways in our school” (Laurel Breault)
A: “I’m excited to work with other officers obviously, and also make possible events that are fun.” (Sanvi Parekh)
A: “Being a leader and being part of this leadership team.” (Maia Costa)
Q: Is there any message you would like to relay to your fellow National Honors Society members?
A: “I just hope we all have a great year, and everyone enjoys their time.” (Tate Payne)
A: “We all stay motivated and work well together” (Kassidy Roche)
A: “And I hope you’re patient with all of us, because we are new officers, but we will try our best!” (Sanvi Parekh)
A: “Just keep up the hard work, you got this.” (Maia Costa)
A: “Congratulations everyone, your hard work got you to this point, and please send pictures to me, Laurel Breault” (Laurel Breault)
