The NCAA basketball tournament didn’t officially begin until March 20 this year, but there was plenty of basketball-related madness in the Toll Gate lower gym on March 13, 2025.
In the annual student-faculty basketball game, the seniors prevailed with a 40-28 victory. Despite some controversy over the playing time of Liam Leahy, a senior who played on the varsity squad, and a few illegal mid-game substitutions, the game ran smoothly. Mary McNulty scored numerous times for the students and had a key block on her coach James Areson. Other notable performances came from seniors Jaiden Tyree-Alves, Shane Moro, and Ian Leahy. Todd Grimes put on a defensive clinic for the teachers, with a block and a steal. Adam Ricci, James Areson, and Officer Jordan Guyton were the top scorers. The seniors were coached by Nickolas Napolitano, Jack Colvin, Will Goodine, and Anthony Merola, all dressing the part with old-school suits and ties. The teachers were coached, of course, by Principal Candace Caluori.
One of the highlights of the night came at halftime, when junior Braydon Fagundes nailed a half-court shot, winning a $50 Visa gift card. Fagundes jokingly described the moment as “life-changing.” The half-court shot contest was part of a raffle run by the Class of 2025, who, under the direction of class advisor Jaclyn Laplante-Beauchmin, organized the event.
