After a lengthy and stressful college application season for the Toll Gate Senior, Caroline Polo tells us about her relief after committing to her top college, Wellesley College. Congratulations Caroline!
Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and your accomplishments here at Toll Gate.
A: “How do I start with this…I am in a lot of clubs definitely. I feel like that’s kinda one of the most prominent things about myself. I am in drama, in orchestra, in film club, yarn club, I am in the academic decathlon.”
Q: Do you plan on doing any of these extracurricular activities in college?
A: “Yeah definitely. I feel like I’ve found a really good community there and I find myself wanting to get involved in the community and such. I think it’s really nice that I am able to pursue those things in college. I would like to find more opportunities like that whether it’s those clubs, or maybe something new. Then, I’d like to find opportunities to make friends and find a community.”
Q: Do college applications stress you out?
A: “Absolutely! I am so happy that they’re kinda over right now. The essays were particularly really stressful.”
Q: Is it true that you have already committed to a college?
A: “Yeah, pretty much.”
Q: And you applied early decision, correct?
A: “Yes.”
Q: Can you tell us what Wellesley means to you?
A: “You know how you find a college and it just kinda speaks to you? I feel like that’s kinda what happened with me. I feel like there’s a community there that I can really appreciate. I am already making friends there. And it’s really nice. I feel like everything about it is just a lovely environment to be in. I’m just very excited.”
Q: Do you have any advice for those underclassmen wanting to get into Wellesley?
A: “Don’t go on Reddit! Genuinely, it’s really not as bad as you think. It will be over eventually. You just kinda have to keep going. It’s about determination. Even if you’re so exhausted and you don’t wanna do your applications. You do inevitably have to do it, but you will find what you want. Even if you don’t get in, all good things in the end.”
Q: How excited are you to be going to Wellesley?
A: “Really excited! I’ve been doing a lot of research and stuff. I keep finding myself looking up the website and going on the website. It’s kind of funny.”
