On January 8, 2024, the Toll Gate swim team had their first victory of the season. It was Toll Gate versus Mount Saint Charles Academy. Located at our home pool, McDermott, the girls won with a close 37-33 victory. Toll Gate started off the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay, featuring junior Katelyn Watson, sophomore Samantha Lin, junior Sam Barr and senior Emily Furtado. Then in the 200 free, Mount Saint Charles’ Shannon Vachon took first, and Toll Gate’s Sam Barr took second.
Lin won the 100 Free, with a PR of 1:09.90, Watson later finishing first in the 500 Free. In this event, both Watson and the Mounties’ Julia Erven ended up swimming an extra lap in the 500 Free after some miscommunication with those who were counting for their races.
Watson again took first place in the 100 back, with sophomore Avi Garcia taking third. Lin placed first in the 100 Breast and Furtado took 3rd. Lastly, our girls won the 400 Free relay, with swimmers Samantha Barr, Chloe Pena, Tate Pane, and Emily Furtado.
Senior Capitain Emily Furtado comments, “I’m very impressed with our performance today, as a team we’ve seen a lot of improvement since the start of the season. Overall, I’m very proud of my team!” The Toll Gate swim team still has a few more meets ahead of them for this swim season, so make sure to support our girls!
