PROVIDENCE – The boys indoor track team notched wins over Scituate, Johnston, and cross-town rival Pilgrim at the Providence Career and Technical Academy on January 2. The Titans scored in every event and swept the two relays en route to their 87-20, 87-18, and 64-43 wins respectively^1. Toll Gate moves to 5-0 on the season, and remains undefeated in the Suburban Division.
The Titans showcased their consistency in the field events as Sophomore Kevin Barker won the high jump and placed third in the long jump. Sophomore Jackson Kavanaugh placed third in the weight throw and ninth in the shot put behind teammate Sean Anderson, who placed fifth.
Senior Rhontahn Vega won the 600 meters and would later be part of the winning 4×400 meter relay along with junior Jonah LaFauci and seniors Jamie Luna and Trevor DiPanni. LaFauci, Jamie Luna, and DiPanni joined senior Mason Tanner to win the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:39.18. Tanner was second in the 300 meters and the 55-meter dash, with teammates Jamie Luna and Dipanni finishing closely behind in second and third, respectively. Jeremie Luna was second in the 55 meter hurdles.
In the distance races, junior John Maynard won the 1500 meters and the 1000 meters. Junior Joshua Maynard was second in the 1000 meters and first in the 3000 meters. Sophomore Oisin O’Donnell finished second in the 3000 meters.
Toll Gate has two dual meets remaining before entering championship season. The State Meet will be held at the PCTA on February 17. Currently the 4×800 meter, 4×400 meter, 4×200 meter relay teams, John Maynard (1500m), and Joshua Maynard (3000m) are in position to qualify for states.
