Hello! My name is Sanvi Parekh, and today I’ll write about the extreme heat at our school.
Since the first day of school on September 5th, Toll Gate High School had found itself in the grip of an unrelenting heatwave. The scorching temperatures had taken their toll on both teachers and students, particularly in classrooms lacking air conditioning. As the sun beats down relentlessly, the windowless rooms turn into ovens, making it challenging for anyone to concentrate or stay comfortable. This sweltering start to the school year undoubtedly made learning a sweaty and exhausting experience for many.
However, there was hope on the horizon. Beginning the week of September 10th, the weather cooled down, providing some much-needed relief to the Toll Gate community. With temperatures becoming more bearable, students and teachers alike had a better chance to focus on their studies without the constant distraction of the heat.
The promise of cooler days ahead is a ray of hope for those enduring the heatwave. In the face of the extreme heat, some schools in Rhode Island, including Toll Gate, made the decision to declare a half-day on Thursday, September 7th. This move recognized the challenges posed by the high temperatures and aimed to prioritize the well-being of students and staff. It’s a clear indicator that addressing the issue of air conditioning in classrooms should be a priority for the school administration.
Let’s hope that such experiences prompt school leaders to take measures to improve the learning environment by investing in climate control solutions, ensuring a more comfortable and productive school year for all.
Stay cool, drink water, and enjoy the warm days as much as you can! Let’s go, Titans!
